Introducing Sophrosyne Studios: Elopement & Fine Art Photographers in Bellingham, WA
Sophrosyne Studios is home to the newest adventure elopement photographer team in the Pacific Northwest! New, meaning I just bought the website domain (that will be coming soon — for now, and until I sit still long enough to build another website, you can find everything here). But not so new when it comes to capturing and creating art out of love.
Love of the Self, love of growing a life inside of you (maternity), love of your partner, love for your dog, and love of your wedding day. Well, all of that and beyond. Because love doesn’t stop there.
After building an international career for over 19 years, with half my time spent in Europe, and an expat life in Sweden, I am fully settling into Bellingham as an elopement photographer rooted in the Pacific Northwest — expanding my creative team with my new Associate Photographer, Becky Koplowitz.
We are joining creative forces to celebrate anything and everything about L-O-V-E through the female gaze.
Hi, we are Savannah and Becky! We can’t wait to celebrate love with you. ♥️
Love is the root.
But before I dive into a little background story about my own journey with love, let me tell you a little more about our new photography studio, and how we can work with you.
Sophrosyne Studios is excited to begin taking bookings for the summer and autumn 2026 seasons for…
• Adventure Elopement Photography: Whether you want to climb a mountain (we have a few recommendations), stand-up paddle board down a turquoise river, or meander through alpine meadows, we are here for it.
• Forest Bathing Boudoir Photography (the original self-love empowerment experience): This is all about you. Whether you want to heal from heartache, celebrate how strong your body is, or simply turn your body into fine art you can hang on your wall… this is about capturing the love for you.
• Couples & Engagement Photography: anywhere and everywhere, but bonus points if it involves an outdoor sport, nature, or furry friends. In other words, incorporating your love of mountain biking into your engagement session? Yes, please. Surfing? Hiking? Simply marinating in the old growth forests? We’re here for that too.
• Fine Art Nude or Implied Nude Maternity Photography: Bodies are beautiful in all stages of life. A session with you changing body is a gift to connect on a deeper level with yourself, and the body that is growing inside of you.
• Small, intimate Nature-Based Photography: We take a handful of small, intimate weddings each spring, summer, and autumn. How can we not? The energy around dozens of people celebrating love is electric!
• Nature-based photo sessions to celebrate the love of your dog, your sisters, your BFFs, you and your favourite hobbies: Yes, we’re getting radical here, but we believe in all flavours of love. Maybe you want to celebrate the love you have of a best friend or a blood sister who has been by your side, through good times and bad. Maybe your love for your dog is incomparable to one you’ll feel for another human. We love capturing art in all those expressions of the heart.
Becky and I are excited to connect with you, meet you where you’re at in your journey with love, and celebrate that with a photo session that is unique to you.
We are based in Bellingham, so it’s easy to walk into our backyard to capture an adventure elopement at Mount Baker — one of the most stunning elopement locations in Washington State — or self-love empowerment session at Yellow Aster Butte.
And, we are excited to meet you at other breathtaking locations around the Pacific Northwest, including the Olympic Peninsula, North Cascades, San Juan Islands, Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast, Squamish, Whistler… and everywhere in between!
If you are ready to say yes to celebrating love with us, send me an email (savannah (at) beastgoddess dot com) and we’ll get a coffee on the schedule — maybe at Lakeline? 😊 And if you’re from out of town? We can have that coffee over a video call.
A Little (Self-) Love Story
Love is the most powerful force on the planet. It is the most potent medicine that I have always believed in. As an anti-religion, anti-political teenager, I declared love to be the only thing I believed in. And with parental permission, I solidified that belief in a tattoo on my wrist at 17. It’s a whole lengthy story, but the gist of it is that I branded myself with my purpose while still in high school, and it came full circle over a decade later when I said a spontaneous yes to participating in a Peyote ceremony in Ericeira, Portugal. Peyote, if you don’t know, is the plant medicine of love. It is gentle, unlike the cousin Ayahuasca (that’s the one you hear horror stories about, often including a lot of bodily fluids). But gentle can be synonymous with powerful, in a subtler way.
Though the medicine was slow to reveal itself, a couple of weeks later I was on a run across a cliff overlooking the Portuguese ocean dotted with surfers, when the message of clarity came to me. It was so disarmingly simple. Love is the medicine.
With years of exploring what exactly my purpose was and how to step fully onto that path, well… my purpose was sitting right there on my skin. All this time.
The core of my belief has always revolved around the love for the Self. My belief has weathered the storm against others who attached selfishness to self-love. I disagree. We must fill our own cup before we can show up for others. We must love ourselves to be able to receive love from others. In the end, you are the only person you have. Everyone else, they can come and go.
But I am a hopeless romantic, and I love all shades of love (this may be at least partly attributed to being a Pisces). I’ve studied relationship dynamics, psychology, communications, earned certifications in life coaching programs, and built my own life coaching programs.
The truth is that I simply love love.
If you are familiar with my art and my work, you know a little bit of the background. My fine art forest bathing nude photography started with mirror work to heal the relationship to myself, before I took the camera and my tripod out into the Swedish forests to create art. I’ve shared my art as a way to heal, and to inspire others to love themselves more deeply. To remove the sexual lens through which so many are conditioned to see the naked human body, and to enjoy the simple innocence of being naked. An experience that is even more potent when held in the arms of mother nature!
These are the containers I have held for other women to heal their feminine wounds, to find a sense of self after heartache, to celebrate themselves and all the hard work they have done to be the empowered woman they are today. (Some men, too.)
And it is through that lens that my work of love is expanding. I am taking on a new face under the extended branch of Sophrosyne Studios. Becky and I are coming together to serve the communities of the Pacific Northwest to celebrate love in all forms, and to create art with those who are ready to lean into love.
When it comes to an empowering photography experience, you’re in good hands.
Since 2012, I’ve run a commercial and advertising business spanning continents, after earning a BFA from the Brooks Institute of Photography. I spent over a decade building a life and business in Europe, eventually settling in to Stockholm, Sweden and living a Swedish life with a self-employment visa.
I returned to the US in 2022, and moved to Bellingham having never visited before, and knowing no one. A true leap of faith… but that story is for another time. Photography has been my world for almost two decades, and I love pairing my work with the magick that is woven in from a lifetime of self-development work.
Are you ready to lean into love?
Becky and I would love love love to meet you, and hear about your journey, your healing, your celebration. Wherever you are at, and in every cycle of life.
Get in touch, and we’ll dive into creative possibilities to plan to session of your wildest dreams. ♥️
